International OutreachEast Africa 2017
For Hope and Purpose Ministries evangelization does not stop at our borders but goes beyond the United States of America to the four corners of the world. We have been on missions to Canada, Europe, Brazil, the Caribbean, and Africa. We are called to help people around the world by offering hope and purpose to all and to extend an invitation to meet Jesus.
Deacon Larry Oney – Mission Trip to East Africa 2017
Deacon Larry Oney, president of Hope and Purpose Ministries, traveled to Uganda, East Africa in January. This trip was moved up from the February dates so that Deacon Oney could teach at the New Dawn Conference in Mbarara, Uganda, East Africa at the Yesu Ahuriire Community in Karama. The Conference theme is: “Be Strong in the Lord (Ephesians 6:10)” with a sub-theme of: “Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forever. (Psalm 125:2).”
While in East Africa, Deacon Oney also met with the Hope and Purpose Ministries Team of priests, prayer teams, and lay ministers who work to further our ministry goals. Hope and Purpose Ministries is committed to helping the women and children from the South Sudan region who are displaced in Uganda. Deacon Oney also met with local bishops and priests, taught at prayer groups in the area, and traveled to Ft. Portal to meet with the school that we work with there.
Deacon Oney was welcomed to Uganda, East Africa with singing and prayer at the hotel. The group that greeted Deacon Oney was made up of his intercessory team and a local businessman who owns a local television station (Hope TV). Sister Salome, who is a sister of a priest from the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux in Louisiana, traveled from her village four hours away with her mother to greet Deacon Oney and welcome him to Uganda. This is normal African culture to welcome a visitor in such a fashion.
During his trip, he also traveled to Mbarara to preach and teach at the New Dawn 2017 conference. The conference was held at the Yesu Ahuriire Spiritual Centre, Karama and was hosted by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Mbarara Archdiocese. Please view our photo gallery below to see pictures from his journey there and while ministering to the people of the Archdiocese of Mbarara. While on the way to the conference, Deacon Oney and the team stopped to have a roadside picnic–there were no restaurants or restroom stops on this road! Nor air conditioning in the vehicle in the extreme heat.
While at the New Dawn Conference, Deacon Oney taught on:
“Now the Lord is Spirit Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” 2 Corinthians 3:17
“Come, let us talk this over, says Yahweh. Thought your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18
“Look I am standing at the door, knocking, if one of you hears me calling and opens the door, I will come in and share a meal at that persons side.” Revelations 3:20
In between teachings, Deacon Oney also had a chance to spend some valuable time with the Hope and Purpose Ministries Intercessory team from Africa. Below are some photos of their time together:
Deacon Oney also taught at The Eucharistic Shrine, Mt. Sion Prayer Center Bukalango in Kampala, in the Archdiocese of Uganda. This Prayer Center is dedicated to prayer and Eucharistic Adoration run by Msgr. Expedito Magembe. It was a powerful day. Much spiritual warfare. Monsignor Magembe asked Deacon Oney to pray over his room where he sleeps. While Deacon Oney was ministering at The Eucharistic Shrine, a team of strong young men surround him to keep some of the people who obviously have some demonic involvement from throwing themselves physically at him. All this is done while the Eucharist is exposed. Monsignor Magembe wanted Deacon Oney to minister to the thousands that were there, which he did. Monsignor Magembe is doing great work there; many are spiritually hungry.
