Prayer is a time when we both talk and listen to God. There are many types of prayer and many ways of praying. Some different types of prayer: Blessing and Adoration, Prayer of Petition, Prayer of Intercession, Thanksgiving, and Praise. There are also different modes of prayer: praying using the gift of tongues, meditation, vocal and internal prayer, spontaneous prayer, different prayer postures (kneeling, standing, sitting, bowing, etc…), contemplative, and so many more.
God wants a relationship with His people. God wants us to turn to Him in our joy, our need, and at all times. The First Commandment is: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Other lists of the Commandments may say, “You shall have no other gods before me.”
Prayer is one way that we make sure that we are putting God first in our lives. As we wake in the morning, we can greet God and ask God what should be on our agenda for the day and praise Him. Throughout the day, we can be ever prayerful and share our day and work with the Lord. At night, we can be grateful for the day and praise God for His kindness and mercy. Our prayer times will help us walk more closely with God.
