November 20, 2021, Hope and Purpose Ministries visit Houma, Louisiana, one of the hardest hit areas by Hurricane Ida, to distribute food, water, cleaning supplies, and some turkeys before this year's Thanksgiving holiday.
Hundreds of people came to receive at St. Lucy Catholic Church in an area that could really use a helping hand.
"People are really struggling. And I know many of them are still living in campers, in their cars, and even tents," Christine Streams, the Liaison of the Office of African American Catholic Ministries for the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese, said. "What you're doing here is needed, and I'll say probably for the next two and half years."
The drive through distribution center began at about ten o'clock in the morning, and cars were still lined up to come through up until noon. Jerome Boykin, the Terrebonne Parish NAACP President, said, "There's a big need, and I'm glad that you all are here to help with that need and to give out food for people, especially with Thanksgiving coming up."
Msgr. Cletus Frank Egbi, the Pastor at St. Lucy Catholic Church, was there in solidarity with Hope and Purpose and to lend a hand to his parishioners as well as other members of the community. He added, "This is really living the faith. That's what Jesus has asked us to do... and let us bring to Jesus also to those who are out there."
